Title: E-commerce in Malaysia: Perceived Benefits and Barriers

Abstract: Malaysian e-commerce industry has not taken off as fast as expected. Although dotcom servers account for nearly 90 per cent of the total servers in the country, the B2B e-transactions account for about 28 per cent of the total transactions on the internet. Malaysians spent about RM57million on e-commerce purchases – a small figure relative to her GDP of RM372 billion in 1999. Besides, the money flew to foreign websites (particularly the US). This paper examines the benefits, problems, and barriers of e-commerce adoption from the perspective of Malaysian firms.
