Title: A Case Study in Intrapreneurship: The Turnaround at Tata Refractories

Abstract: This paper is an account of Tata Refractories—a 40-year old company with a record of uninterrupted profitability—turning sick for a variety of reasons and, thereafter, turning around through innovative and entrepreneurial initiatives. It is shown that measures such as productivity enhancement, system simplification, good finance management, and pursuit of business excellence are the fundamentals in this turnaround experience. This paper essentially highlights the challenges of management of change given the people issues involved in such aged organizations.
