Title: Impact of Task Types and CMC Technology on Exchange Quality: An Empirical Investigation

Abstract: Effective communication is critical to most organizational processes. Globally, Computer Mediated Communication has emerged as a powerful and a more satisfying medium to facilitate organizational communication even though it raises concerns relating to its efficacy particularly when compared to the more ‘natural’ face-to-face communication. This research, through an empirical investigation, analyses the impact of asynchronous computer-mediated communication on the quality of organizational communication. The author concludes that satisfaction with the CMC on both task as well as relational dimensions improves with media familiarity and its frequent use. The research reveals that managers on the whole prefer the more natural media of face-toface communication for tasks that require some form of social interaction.
