Title: What Factors Influence Pioneering Advantage of Companies?
Authors: Sharad Mittal - -, Sanjeev Swami - -
Issue/Year: Jul-2004
Section: Research
Abstract: The authors develop a conceptual framework to explain the various factors that might influence a firm’s pioneering efforts in the Indian market. They propose hypotheses regarding the effect of order of entry on performance and strategic components, association between strategies and performance, variations within pioneer group, and the moderating effect of competitive environment. The results show that, despite large variations within the pioneer group, on an average, the pioneers have been better performers than the followers. Further, the effect of order of entry on performance is stronger for those firms that operate in less intense competitive environment than those operating in more intense competitive environment.
